Conference Call for Poster Presentations

Are you learning or teaching any second language? Do you have interesting stories to share?

High school, College, University teachers and students are invited to join us in presenting their experience at ALC 2016 Poster Sessions.

Presentation Format

Your topic could be described on a printed poster or by photographs, graphics and pieces of text that you attach to the presentation panel. English and Arabic languages are welcome. 

The standard poster size of (48" x 36") and horizontal orientation is the format.
If you are using photographs, graphics and pieces of text, these should also fit within the area specified above. The poster has to be an experience in itself for the one who looks at it.

Presenters of a poster will be expected to be present on Saturday April 2nd 2016 in order to explain their poster and to hand out any leaflets, or other information materials, they have available for viewers of their poster. 

Special consideration will be given to ensure that a variety of topics and geographical/cultural range will be represented.

Keynote Speakers

We are pleased to announce Mr. Elijah Reynolds (Santa Clara University) and Mr. Taoufiq Cherkaoui (University of Cambridge) as this year’s plenary speakers.


Mr. Taoufiq Cherkaoui is a Language Advisor to the British Council and a Principal Examiner for Edexcel Pearson Exam Board. Taoufiq is also a Lead Practitioner of Modern Languages, Religion and philosophy. Taoufiq also works as an Education Consultant for Cambridge University International Examinations.  He joined Cambridge CIE in 2011 following over twelve years working as an education practitioner in the UK, France and Morocco.  As an Education Consultant he completes a number of training sessions, in Kazakhstan and Egypt, on education strategy, and summative item writing for languages.

Taoufiq often takes part in international seminars and conferences by presenting talks and running workshops relating to education, and teaching and learning. He has experience of curriculum development and schemes of work development for modern languages through working with the British Council and Cambridge University CIE.

Taoufiq is interested in all aspects of current research and theory relating to teaching, learning and education.  He was involved with research studies with the University of Warwick, Edge Hill University and Leeds Metropolitan University. In his spare time Taoufiq enjoys reading, travelling, philately, music and playing the acoustic guitar. 


Mr. Elijah Reynolds is a PhD Candidate in Linguistics from Indiana University where his dissertation is on Arabic phonology. He completed the BA in Linguistics at IU in 2004 and the MA in Near Eastern Languages & Cultures at IU in 2007 under the close supervision of Dr. Salman al-Ani.

Mr. Reynolds currently serves the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Santa Clara University as a Lecturer, and he is an affiliated faculty member to the Arabic, Islamic, and Middle East Studies Program. Primarily, teaches Modern Standard and Levantine Arabic, as well as topics on Arabic sociolinguistics, Arab Identity, and the Qur’an. He is a Visiting Faculty and Curriculum Developer at Bayan Claremont Islamic University where he teaches Classical and Modern Arabic online.

His primary research is in Arabic phonology and morphology, while his secondary field of research addresses the Muslim intellectual tradition of linguistics, namely Ṣarf, Naḥw, Balāgha, and methods of Quran interpretation and exegesis – Tafsīr and Ta’wīl.

In his copious free time, Mr. Reynolds run the Academy of Quranic Linguistics in the San Francisco Bay Area where he teaches and gives lectures on contemporary linguistic approaches to the Quran in light of the classical Islamic tradition of Tafsīr.
